Thoughtful Beginnings

I've finally decided to make the crossover from my old, faithful livejournal. I've used it since I was a freshman in high school, so I guess it's somewhat fitting that I bid the old adolescent memories good-bye, and really start anew with a different blogging site.

I guess I will first start with news on the publication of "Shakespeare's Inferno." I finally received the contracts and W-9 forms that my mom forwarded to me from Pioneer (the publishing company we're working through). I had my Creative Writing Professor from last semester, Robert Stubblefield, take a look at the contracts for me, and help me understand the legal process a little better. Everything looked fine, and I'm excited that 50% of the royalties will go to us (25% to me, 25% to Kirby Ann, my co-author). We also get 10 free copies each, so I'm writing down names of people who want one (my parents of course, Zack, and Stephanie). Stubblefield and I then walked over to the LA building to make a copy of my play because he wanted to read it. While in the office, I kind of got "shown off" to the VP of the English Department, who said I might get into the newsletter they produce. So that was really cool, and I'm excited about the recognition we're getting with the play. Of course, it looks like it's a work just by me, even though Kirby had just as much input. But this is really a big step for me, as I'm looking at screenwriting as a potential career (Stubblefield he might get me an override slip to get into the Screenwriting class here).

Tonight at 7, I'm going to watch "Pulp Fiction" for my Intro to Film class. I'm looking forward to it, since I've always wanted to watch the movie. My film classes are really interesting and different. I do find myself retaining the information better (probably because my mind is subconsiously taking notes since I know I might use this in the future), although I still find myself being more quiet in class. I guess I'm always dwelling on the perfect comment that eventually I run out of time to actually say it. I just need to let it go.

Zack's been giving me some new music to listen to, since I'm taking more of a dive into the Indie scene that I had just been wading my feet in (my only taste had really been Franz Ferdinand). Here's some of the CDs he loaned me:

- The Bravery, The Bravery -- kind of a "Killers" sound to them; electro-rock, poppish.
- The Decemberists, The Crane Wife -- I really liked this album, and I like the fact that one of the members went to UM. The album has a "turn of the century" tone to it.
- The Flaming Lips, At War With The Mystics -- this band is kind of wacky. Especially the "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song."
- The Fratellis, Costello Music -- apparently these guys are really big in Britain. I really like the song "Chelsea Dagger," which was featured in "Run Fat Boy Run."
- The Futureheads, The Futureheads -- very British sound to them as well. Kind of fast-paced music.
- The Hold Steady, Boys and Girls in America -- according to Zack, the album title is from Jack Keroac's On the Road. Good party atmosphere to them.
- Kaiser Chiefs, Employment -- another very British sounding band. I love my Brits.
- Modest Mouse, The Moon and Antarctica -- I only really knew Modest Mouse from "Float On." The rest of this album has the same vibe.
- The New Pornographers, Electric Version -- have not listened to them yet, but I hear they change their sound a lot.
- The Shins, Chutes Too Narrow -- like everyone else, I heard about the Shins from the movie, "Garden State." But I liked their songs from the movie, so I bet I'll like the album.

That was my nice dose of Indie Rock music. :) Now my iTunes has character!

Those are really the only points of interest for now. We'll see how this blog goes. I had really enjoyed my livejournal for a while, but now it seems that the only person who reads it is my ex-boyfriend (who's just friends with me now, but even still...). Kind of awkward.

Here's to the new era of blogging!
